My Boyfriend Doesn’t buy my J’s-Female Sneakerhead Gimmie Retro’s and OG’s

It’s a man’s world!!!!! But NOW is the time for my ladies to stake their claim. Ok, so a little background about me. I was raised in a middle class neighborhood, private school, nice things, with in reason. But my parents didn’t have money to spend on Sneakers, Jordan’s at that time. During my High School Years, early college Michael Jordan was at the height of his career. On Sunday’s I would try to get all of my homework done so I could watch Air Majesty play ball. At that time, the Chicago Bulls BALLED. 6 Rings Baby!! Who had a Chicago Bulls Starter Jacket? Me!!!!

While in College I had a part time job, I was able to buy a few things I wanted. I wanted Sneakers. Jordan’s to be exact. I would frequent the Nike Outlet in Calhoun, GA. It was there, I copped my first pair of OG Jordan 13’s, which I still have to this day. They are major beaters, they need laces, but I have them. Maybe that qualifies me as an OG. I’ll leave that up to you to decide. At one time I had a pair of Olive 9’s and White Cement  3’s. Can you believe I let them sit in storage for a long time and they ended up dry rotting? All of the sneakers I copped way back when came from the outlet in Calhoun, Ga. Do you think that would happen today? Probably not.

Fast forward to present day. I have a decent job. I can pretty much dress how I want to go to work. And most work places are casual. I rock Sneakers 90% of my work week. Individuality is poppin and so is my voice as a female sneakerhead. I now own over 100 pairs of Jordans, which are made for men.( I know there are ladies with waaaaaayyyy more Sneakers than what I have). I have a few J’s, specifically made for women. My Lola Bunny’s. And my Jordan Heiress, 11’s.

And it seems like NOW, maybe late 2017, Nike, Reebok, Puma, New Balance…have decided to try and keep up with What’s poppin in the Female Sneakerhead world. WE love rockin J’s and we can make them look BETTER on our feet. But wait; hold up, that’s a part of the problem. Many ladies I see/hear, have small feet. So even in the men’s sizing, the sneakers won’t fit. With Big Kids sizes the quality isn’t that great. So what should my ladies do? They feel left out. I don’t have this problem. I wear a size 8 in men’s, however; the Jordan’s I buy still look kinda big and boxy on me.

Well Nike has tried to help the situation. With a team of 14 female advisor’s they have released a major collection. Dropping on 1/25/2018. While I commend their efforts, is this what female sneakerheads want? A whole collection of pastel colored Jordan 1’s? I don’t feel compelled to buy any of the new Satin and Suede collection. Light Aqua and Hydrogen Blue? They don’t move me…Then there is the Women’s Air Force 1 collection, all white. Many of these resemble, a shoe a nurse would wear. Maybe the Rebel is dope. But that’s all I got. Since the it’s the Season of Her; I just wonder who was HER; that was consulted on the collections?  I would have rather seen a Smaller Scaled Retro OG Collection. With a slimmer shoe fit for ladies, with the SAME quality produced for the men’s sizing .

I rated the Nike Collection a B. But the great Matt Powell rated these collections a C- at best.

Yes, this is a start, but we need more. If I am going to spend close to $200 or better, I want retro’s. I want OG’s. I want the Sneakers selling out on the shelf or online. I want that old nostalgic feeling of the 80’s and 90’s. My boyfriend isn’t buying my J’s. I’m a female Sneakerhead, capable of picking and choosing the sneakers I like. Not too girly and make them fit just right. Am I happy Nike is finally focused on the female consumer? Yes! BUT I don’t want to be boxed in with an All white collection, pastels and suede. Gimmie retro’s and OG’s.

Peace, Love and Sneakervision
